Each year the DVLA has auctions for registrations they believe will fetch a large amount. Many of these are previously unreleased and so have never been on a vehicle before.
There are two types of auctions. Timed Auctions are held online only, Live Auctions are held at a venue.
The main auctions, where the more expensive registrations are normally auctioned are held at venues around the country. You can usually watch these events online if you are unable to attend.
You can download the auction catalogues from the DVLA website before the events. The catalogue will list all registrations that will be available at the auction and the reserve prices.
There are currently 5 main auctions planned for 2015.
25th 27th February
The DVLA are expecting over 1,600 registrations to be on offer at this auctions. The reserve prices starts at £250 and the maximum is £4,000.
This auction is likely to generate a lot of interest as it is the first time a large amount of Northern Ireland registrations will be up for auction within mainland UK.
Irish plates generate a lot of interest as the can have the characters I and Z in them, which normal UK plates are not allowed.
12th 14th May
22nd 24th July
23rd 25th September
25th 27th November
The time auctions are scheduled for:
Monday 16th Wednesday 25th March
Monday 15th Wednesday 24th June
Monday 19th to Wednesday 28th October
