Accelerate Your Love Life

Unlucky in love? Well, jump in the driver’s seat and you’ll accelerate your love life – apparently…
In a recent survey, one in ten of us said that stellar driving skills are key on a first date. Ok, so ten percent isn’t a huge amount, but it was certainly enough for the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) to take notice.
They’ve just launched a new initiative, promising to improve both your driving skills and your love life – essentially killing two birds with one stone.
The driver assessment programme, entitled ‘Love Driving’, is a free driver assessment and will be carried out by a qualified assessor. It’s usually priced at £39, but with a view to helping out those of us who need a boost in the dating department, IAM has generously forfeited profit in order to spread the love.
Although first and foremost Love Driving was born out of the notion that improving driving skills is the best way to impress a potential love interest, it also has another, more serious side to it.
The Institute has always expressed interest in improving the standard of driving and riding on the roads of Britain; the amount of people killed or seriously injured through road traffic accidents is on the rise, and shows no sign of stopping. This follows figures in November which revealed that KSIs (killed or seriously injured) has risen 4 per cent, to 24,580, in the first six months of 2014.
It’s clear, then, that something needs to be done and what better way than to combine a lesson in love with a lesson in safe driving?!
This quirky campaign has gained backing from IAM president and Formula 1 champion Nigel Mansell CBE.
He said “Everyone can benefit from advice on how to drive better. The IAM is offering an amazing free opportunity to give every driver out there a chance to be a safer, more efficient motorist. Each and every one of us has a responsibility to look out for each other on the roads."
The session will last an hour and there are no special requirements; all you need to take part is a driving license and your own car! 60 minutes of learning alongside a professional assessor promises to lead to a heightened, more enjoyable and safer driving experience.
If you’re a resident of England or Wales and want to get involved, then be sure to get in quick; sessions must be reserved before 31st December and are predicted to book up fast.
So why not visit the Institute of Advanced Motorists’ website, sign up, and inject some Va Va Voom into your love life…
